A revision is presented of six sections of the genus Bulbophyllum (Orchidaceae): sect. Adelopetalum (mainly occurring in Australia), sect. Lepanthanthe, sect. Macrouris, sect. Pelma, sect. Peltopus, and sect. Uncifera (all mainly occurring in New Guinea). Together these include 110 species and 9 subspecies. Fortyseven species and 4 subspecies are new; they are either described in this revision or in precursors to this revision. The genus Dactylorhynchus is reduced to Bulbophyllum. Keys to the species, as well as synonymy, descriptions and illustrations of each species are provided. Some aspects of the morphology of the plants are discussed. A cladistic analysis of each revised section is given. A method to select the closest outgroup species from a number... |

A taxonomic revision of Amaracarpus Blume (Rubiaceae, Psychotrieae) is presented. The salient characteristics of Amaracarpus are given, with particular attention to the differences between Amaracarpus, Dolianthus and Psychotria. The taxonomic account includes a key to species, an informal (artificial) subgeneric classification, full descriptions, and a list of specimens examined. Amaracarpus comprises 22 species: six new combinations are proposed, one new species is described, eight species are moved to other genera, the transfer of 12 species to Psychotria is confirmed, and numerous taxa are placed into synonymy. A checklist of all Amaracarpus names is provided. |

The Gulf of Papua (GoP) has become a focal point for understanding the deposition and accumulation of siliciclastic and carbonate material along and across a low-latitude continental margin. Although studies have addressed submarine geomorphological features on the inner and middle shelves, as well as processes that may have led to their formation, the seafloor of adjacent slope regions remains poorly documented. This study presents and interprets results from approximately 13,000 line-km of multibeam bathymetry, 9500 line-km of 3.5 kHz seismic, and 122 sediment cores that were collected from the GoP shelf edge and slope, primarily on two cruises (PANASH and PECTEN). Bathymetric maps, in conjunction with the seismic profiles and cores, were used to make... |

The genus Guineapsaltria is erected for eight species, distributed in New Guinea and northeastern Queensland. Five species are transferred from the genus Baeturia Stål, 1866 and redescribed, viz. G. chinai (Blöte, 1960), G. flava (Goding & Froggatt, 1904), G. pallida (Blöte, 1960), G. stylata (Blöte, 1960), and G. viridula (Blöte, 1960), while three species are described as new to science (G. flaveola n. sp., G. pallidula n. sp., and G. pennyi n.sp.). G. flava is designated as the type species of the genus. Baeturia minuta Blöte, 1960 is synonymized with Guineapsaltria flava. The phylogeny of Guineapsaltria is discussed and some remarks are made on its phylogenetic relationships with other New Guinean and Australian tibicinid genera. A key to the males... |

The Homalictus are classified into four groups... |

Several scaly tree ferns (Cyatheaceae) from eastern Malesia are transferred from Cyathea s.lat. to other genera: Alsophila roroka from Sulawesi; Alsophila lamoureuxii from New Guinea; Alsophila binayana, A. bisquamata, A. mapahuwensis, A. murkelensis, A. ohaensis, and Sphaeropteris pukuana from Seram. A new name is chosen for Cyathea coriacea, Alsophila katoi, which here is first reported for the Vogelkop Peninsula, New Guinea. Alsophila commutata, a tree fern with branched trunks, is first reported from the Philippines, expanding its original distribution from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. A detailed and revised diagnostic description of this species is provided and a second-step lectotype is chosen. |
